Teachers

Folk Dance Canberra’s three teachers have many years of teaching experience.  Throughout the year, they attend dance workshops of different cultures and styles to add to their dance repertoire and knowledge.  They have also all attended international workshops with ethnic teachers and choreographers.

Rebecca Lane
Folk Dance Australia Teacher

Rebecca completed the Folk Dance Australia teacher training course in 2015. Having loved ballet, jazz and contemporary classes in childhood, Rebecca cast the net wider in early adulthood studying movement therapy, contact improvisation, contemporary technique and African dance and drumming but then settled on seven years of intensive learning of the Indian Classical style, Odissi, complemented by an Honours degree in Indian Studies. She has been teaching dance to adults and children since the age of 19. Rebecca teaches one of Folk Dance Canberra’s Beginner’s classes, and the Advanced class.

Theresa Orchard
Folk Dance Australia Teacher

Graduated in 1998 from the Folk Dance Australia Teacher Training Course and has been teaching at Folk Dance Canberra since then, and also at Canberra International Folk Dance Association.  Apart from a spell of just over a year, which Theresa spent in the UK, she has taught on a regular basis at Folk Dance Canberra since her graduation.  Theresa has attended international workshops overseas in Romania, The Netherlands and one on Bulgarian and Armenian dance in Bali, plus Israeli dance camps with visiting Israeli teachers held in Victoria.

Lesley Rose
Folk Dance Australia Teacher

Lesley’s earlier dance training was in ballet, tap and stage performance. She is a graduate of the Folk Dance Australia Recreational Teacher Training Course (1995). She commenced teaching for Folk Dance Canberra in 1996. Lesley’s overseas experience includes dance seminars in Romania (twice), The Netherlands (twice), Bulgaria, Albania, Armenia and Bali along with many Israeli dance seminars in Victoria, Australia.  Lesley was the Facilitator for the Teacher Training Course from 1999-2005. She currently teaches a Beginner’s class and an Intermediate class.
