About Folk Dance Canberra
Folk Dance Canberra Incorporated (FDC) is a recreational folk dance group, which teaches dances from many countries around the world. Our classes are taught in a friendly, relaxed and inclusive atmosphere without the need for a partner.
FDC strives to offer members variety, both in the dances learned and the options of varying class levels and times, with classes ranging from beginner to advanced levels. During ACT school terms, classes are held Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, plus Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings. As well as regular classes, occasionally events focused on dances from a particular country or region will be held.
FDC has a very energetic Events Committee which organises social dances and specialty workshops by visiting teachers as well as themed Mid-Year and Christmas parties. FDC membership provides discounts to workshops and social dances. Members also receive a regular newsletter, ‘Folk Tales’.
FDC dancers have participated in displays at aged care facilities, community expos and events, the Canberra Multicultural Festival and the National Folk Festival.
All our teachers have been certified by Folk Dance Australia Incorporated and are encouraged to be First-Aid trained, in accordance with the Australian Guidelines for Dance Teachers.
